On two separate occasions (namely the 31.01. and 02.02.1943), he launched counterattacks against enemy forces that had broken deep into the sector of the neighbouring unit by stripping his own frontline ruthlessly of forces. By these actions he contributed decisively to the prevention of Ssinjawino’s capture by the Soviets.
