Biography

Kenneth Moore enlisted shortly after Pearl Harbor. He volunteered as a paratrooper and became a medic with minimal training.

On D-Day, June 6, 1944, Moore parachuted into France with the 101st Airborne.

Alongside fellow medic Robert Wright, he transformed a church in Angoville-au-Plain into an aid station, treating over 80 wounded—including German soldiers—under heavy fire. Moore retrieved the injured from nearby fields, unarmed, protected only by his Red Cross armband. Both men received the Silver Star for their bravery and later served in battles including the Battle of the Bulge.

After the war, Moore returned to California, worked for Chevron, and ran several gas stations until retiring in the 1980s due to health issues. He passed away on December 7, 2014, at age 90. His ashes were scattered.
