Biography

Cheok Boon Tan was born on 18th May 1922 in Penang, Malaysia, moved to Hong Kong on his own and gruduated from Hongkong University in 1952, he studied Economics. He joined Hongkong governement civil service and was sent to Oxford United Kingdom for some diplomas. He stayed in the civil service until his death on 14th March 1971. At the time of his death he was the deputy director of the Hongkong Information Service.
He married to Dora Sik Mann Chan on 11th april 1953.
He was member of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Force from October 1941 until January 1946 with the rank of Private.
Amongst the documents he received, there is also a HK Volunteer Defense Corps Certificate of Service, saying that he served as a mobilised member of this corps from 8.12.41 to 22.12.42 in the rank of a Private.
