Bertrand Close was born in Portland on 17th february 1925. He attended Beaumont Grade School, Benson High School, Oregon State University and Willamette University School of Law. He enlisted on 17th July 1943 and served with the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division. In 1954, he began a private law practice and later joined the law firm of Stoel Rives as an associate. In 1986, he joined the law firm of Tonkon Torp as a partner. He retired in 1997.
