When enemy fire pinned his company down and inflicted heavy casualties, First Lieutenant Nufer ran 150 yards across open, fire-swept terrain to friendly tanks. Mounting the lead tank, he led the vehicles into action until the tank on which he was riding was struck by enemy fire, and he was knocked to the ground.
