Sergeant Carrell E. White (38293977), Infantry, Company B, 309th Infantry Regiment, for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on 27 March 1945 in the vicinity of ******** (deleted from original copy) ,Germany.

Sergeant White led a twelve-man patrol into the town of ***********, Germany, and, despite severe enemy artillery and mortal fire, succeeded in clearing it of enemy personnel. He immediately set up defensive positions in the town. Unable to move his men during daylight hours without drawing artillery fire, he used a two-man patrol to contact his company and bring forward needed ammunition and rations at night. Sergeant White also established a system of observation posts from which he personally observed and directed artillery and mortar fire for a period of six days. His courageous leadership and outstanding resourcefulness are in accordance with the highest military traditions.
