After attending the Officers Candidate School, was placed as Second Lieutenant in Company C, 117th Engineer Battalion which served in the Pacific theattre. During the Second World War he rose in ranks to Captain.
After the war he served at the headquarters of the Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C. and married Mary Louise Weinrich on 1st June 1945. After military discharge he founded the Ledford Construction Company, the Universal Construction and the Insituform East. He reitred in the 1980's
