"Thoma has shown merit as PAK-richtschütze of a 5 cm Pak-S.F.L. during a tankbattle in the night of 7th - 8th July 1943, west of Kalinin. It was primarily by his acting that three tanks (1 BT 40 and 2 T 34) that tried to overrun the gun, were destroyed by rapid fire and in short period. During the destruction of a KW 1 in front of the lines of 1.Kompanie, East of Kalinin, Thoma distinguished himself again. Four of the tanks destroyed by his gun, all were destroyed at far distance of the own lines and without infantry support."
