"On 24th September 1944, near Fresnes, France, the radio half-track to which Technician Fourth Grade Pollard was assigned as radio operator was subjected to heavy enemy artillery fire. The Battalion was warding off a determined enemy counterattack and radio communications with the companies and higher headquarters was of utmost importance. With complete disregard for his own personal safety even though he had been slightly wounded by a shell fragment, Technician Fourth Grade Pollard remained by the radio and continued to perform his assigned duties. Technician Fourth Grade Pollard's courageous actions and extreme devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States."
