Major Adams led a section of 6 P-51 aircraft which flew as cover for B-25's on a low-level strike against shipping along the western coast of Formosa. While the bombers were strafing and bombing a freighter, Major Adams sighted a small enemy submarine surfaced approximately 300 yards from shore. He led his flight on a straifng run over the vessel and scored hits aft and around the conning tower. Coming in for a second pass, he and his pilots scored additional hits on the submarine and it rolled over and sank.
