Hauptmann Fuchs received the Knight’s Cross for his deeds on the 27.01.1945 at the crossroads located 800 metres north of the village of Scharnigk. At the time the 299. Infanterie-Division was covering the left flank of the 131. Infanterie-Division, which in turn was attacking the village of Liebstadt as part of the 4. Armee’s breakout attempt to the west. On this day Hauptmann Fuchs captured the crossroads, destroyed 10 Soviet T-34s with a handful of men and thereby prevented a hostile penetration into the flank of the 131. Infanterie-Division.
