    Biography

    Gerrit Schmidt lived in the Dutch East Indies. He was born o December 10th, 1910 as son to Frederik Ferdinand Schmidt and Klaaske Feenstra. He served as gunner KNIL-Artillery, professional military. Together with 214 other POW's from the military occupation of Peningki and Karoengan, he was executed on board of Japanse warships as repraisal for the sinking of two Japanese minesweepers. His remains were thrown overboard.
