Awarded for a number of wartime actions, the most important of which took place on the 28.08.1942 during a major Soviet armoured attack southwest of Kaluga. In the previous 12 days Hauser’s Bataillon had fended off a total of 38 hostile attacks, in which a total of 14 penetrations were eliminated in counterthrusts personally led by Hauser himself. On this particular day the German frontline was again held onto, and a total of 45 Soviet tanks were destroyed in this sector.
