Biography

Iver O. Tufty was born on May 25th, 1916. He entered service as Aviation Cadet on February 6th, 1941. He served in EUrope as Pilot on B-17 bombers with 324th Bombardment Squadron, 91st Bombardment Group and reached the rank of Captain. He was honrably discharged in 1946 and transferred to the South Dakota Air National Guard. Here he reached the rank of Brigadier General. He retired in 1973..
Iver O. Tufty passed away on July 26th, 1988.

"For extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Pilot of a B-17 Heavy Bomber in the 324th Bombardment Squadron, 91st Bombardment Group (H), EIGHTH Air Force, while participating in a bombing mission on 30 November 1944, against enemy targets in the European Theater of Operations. The personal courage and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Tufty on this occasion have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 8th Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces."
