Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct in combat against the enemy as Aera Commander of the O.D. in eastern Zeeuws-Flanders. He kept in touch with the Witte Brigade in Belgium and succeeded, by daring conduct, in getting a member of this Brigade, who had been admitted to hospital in Hulst and was guarded by local police, across the border after which he was forced to go into hiding. On September 5th, 1944, the Staff of the O.D., in a farmhouse, came under attack by German light armoured cars. In the ensuing exchange of fire, the Germans were forced to retreat. During the night of September 16th to 17th , the staff was surrounded in another farmhouse and he managed to avoid capture by a quick flight and two days later, he managed to join the advancing Allied troops.
