    Biography

    Willem Vis van Heemst lived in Sommelsdijk. He was born on February 21st, 1917 as son to Johannes Vis van Heemst (November 19th, 1870, Sommelsdijk - February 17th, 1943, Sommelsdijk) and Anna Cornelia Zaaijer (April 25th, 1879, Dirksland). He worked as carpenter and farmer. On December 20th, 1944 he was arrested during a German raid but managed to escape soon after. In January 1945 he was again arrested, this time in Rotterdam. On January 7th, 1945 he was executed as a repraisal for the death of a German soldier. This soldier was killed during a resistance raid on a villa at the Bergweg Zuid in Bergschenhoek.
