Memorial Executions Bergschenhoek

On January 7th, 1945, ten young Dutch men were shot by the Germans at this location as reprisal.

The names of the men are:
Max Leendert Lijklema, 22 years old
Cornelis Mink, 21 years old
Bertus Pragt, 30 years old
Dingenis Sanderse, 23 years old
Pieter Jacob Slis, 33 years old
Adrianus Snoek, 37 years old
Johannes Hendrik Storm, 43 years old
Adrianus Cornelis Swenne, 27 years old
Herman Rink Veenema, 37 years old
Willem Vis van Heemst, 27 years old

The ten men were executed following an incident on January 6, 1945, in which a German sentry was killed at a checkpoint while arresting an armed Dutch criminal.
In reprisal, 10 prisoners were transferred from Rotterdam police headquarters to the scene of the incident and shot dead in the presence of local residents.
