"Distinguished himself by courageous conduct against the enemy on May 11, 1940, when he was a central operator in the telephone exchange of the command post of the commander of a battery at 7 Veld on Jaffalaan near Delft and noticed that the operator was relaying messages incorrectly to the battery officer, voluntarily went there under enemy fire and took over his task, relaying messages back and forth several times.
Furthermore, on the following May 12, 13, and 14, repeatedly and successfully relaying messages independently and under enemy fire."
