"This officer was present on the 18th May 1944 at the action of tanks of the 4th Armd. Regt on Mass Albaneta and Phantom Ridge. As Deputy Bde Commander he co ordinated the action of the Tanks with the Infantry and was personally present in the forefront of the battle at the most difficult moments. The example of his courage and undaunted attitude in front of the enemy was inspiring, he later commanded the Group which took Piedmonte and Hill 553 and by his courage and example inspired the troops under his command to overcome determined enemy resistance."
