Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself by courageous conduct in combat against the enemy on May 10, 1940, by keeping up the defense under enemy artillery fire as assistant gunner in Bunker B 5 during the fighting near Wessem on the river Meuse after the commander of the bunker had been killed; despite many direct hits on the bunker inflicting losses to the enemy until he received a direct hit himself, seriously injuring him. Later he succumbed to his injuries.
