Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Sergeant Tweede Klasse (Sergeant 2nd class)
Unit:
Reserve Korps Manahassa, Wapen der Infanterie, Koninklijk Nederlandsch-Indisch Leger (KNIL)
Awarded on:
June 11th, 1948
Citation:
"Distinguished himself through great courage and perseverance in the battle against the Japanese in Manado in January 1942.
As deputy commander of a 100-kilometer group deployed to the vicinity of Commander Kaweng (Kakas-Manado) to carry out guerrilla missions, Sergeant Inaray, when contact with the company commander was lost, provided excellent support to his group commander by setting ambushes and patrolling the terrain. It was largely due to his attitude, example, and influence that the entire group resolved to persevere to the end.
When, due to betrayal, the group was attacked at night, he urged the soldiers to stand firm and die together. He courageously participated in the firefight; when the 100-kilometer gunner was wounded, he took over his weapon and continued the fight with it. He was killed in action by the enemy fire from the retreating enemy. "Displayed great personal courage and loyalty unto death."

Roya; Decree no. 43
Posthumously awarded.
