Biography

Jonkheer. Lieutenant Commander 3rd Class, dreaming of triumphant battles. Jan served as a naval officer in 's-Gravesande during the German invasion of the Netherlands in May 1940. After the Dutch capitulation, he enrolled at Delft University of Technology. Jan saw his chance in 1941 and crossed over to England and went from there to the East Indies.

Killed on board as tower commander of Hr. Ms. cruiser De Ruyter during the battle in the Java Sea on 27 February 1942.
