Biography

Private Gene J. Appleby landed near Groesbeek at Drop Zone T on September 17th, 1944. After landing, when the troops collected themselves to go to their objectives, Private Gene J. Appleby was killed by enemy fire and reported as missing in action. He was pronounced killed in action on September 18th, 1945.
His remains were found at the Groenendaal Farm, North of Groesbeek on September 8th, 2011 and his remains identified in 2016.
