Awarded on:
December 22nd, 1939
"The outstanding courage and devotion to duty of this officer have been apparent throughout his service in Palestine.
On many occasions under heavy fire, on several of which his aircraft has been badly damaged, he has shown complete disregard to his personal safety.
"During the early stages of the action at Bani Na'Im on 18th December 1938, when an armed band of about 60 were engaged by three Gladiator aircraft, he was wounded in the foot. Although in considerable pain and with his damaged aircraft being repeatedly hit by enemy fire, he continued to take flying action low down the wadi and inflicting several casualties. Eventually, his foot became so numb that he had difficulty in controlling the aircraft the aircraft and decided to return to Lydda. By the time he had reached Ramleh, however, he found it necessary to land. The part taken by this officer contributed largely to the success of the operation."
