"Distinguished himself through courageous conduct against the enemy on March 2 and 3, 1942, near Grisses and Lamongan (East Java), as commander of a patrol of Marines, with a section-strength unit, by very forcefully suppressing serious unrest among the population in a very short time, demonstrating personal courage.
Furthermore, by escorting and bringing to safety the relatives of murdered Native Administrative Officials in an area already abandoned.
Subsequently, through his overwhelming perseverance and determination, he succeeded in completing a reconnaissance tasked to him simultaneously."
