August 7th, 1942
Awarded for his actions on the 25.07.1942, during the fighting of his Division near the Kalach bridge. On this day Wolf and his Platoon of Panzer IIIs were attached to Major Fau and his Kradschützen-Bataillon 53 when it was caught in a counterattack by the Soviet 55th & 56th Tank Brigades. Stabsfeldwebel Wolf and his Zug found themselves in a favourable reverse slope position as the oncoming Soviet tanks crested the hill in front of them. Wolf and his Panzers knocked out numerous Soviet tanks and decisively helped to prevent an enemy breakthrough.
