Klaus-Friedrich Eitel was supposed to have been awarded the ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on March 14th, 1945 vor his extraordinary actions during the defence of Elbing. He was actually recommended on January 25th, 1945. Although after World War Two he fought for recognition of the awarding during which his claim and awarding was witnessed by Major Heinz Bundiss, Oberleutnant zur See Hans-Walter Bender and Oberstleutnant Dr. Alfred Primmig, his claim was never formally recognized.
