November 1942: Head of the broadcasting department in the Propagandaministerium.
October 1942 - 1945: Ministerialdirektor in the Propagandaministerium.

Fritzsche signed the unconditional declaration of surrender for Berlin on May 2, 1945, presumably the most senior government official in the city.
