"On his return from the Far East in December 1945, Flight Lieutenant Hutt has been continuously engaged in instructor duties, flying Dakota aircraft. At the end of June 1948 he was one of the first to be attached to British Air Forces of Occupation for the Berlin air lift and during this operation he has displayed the qualities of courage and resolute determination which gained him the Distinguished Flying Cross in the Burma campaign. He has to date completed 77 sorties on the air lift, flying both by day and by night and has been specially selected to continue the air lift during spells of particularly bad weather. He has in consequence had a full share of the more hazardous tasks. Whatever the conditions this very skilful Dakota captain has faced up to them with that cheerful enthusiasm which has singled him out from his fellow captains and has inspired them to emulate his example. Flight Lieutenant Hutt has earned a place among the select few who have set the high standard which prevails in this operation and have given a lead to others, a real achievement when the high quality of the majority of Dakota crews is considered."
