William Taliaferro's Division Monument

This memorial commemorates the units of CSA Major General William Taliaferro’s Division, who was attacked near this location by Slocum's Army of Georgia in the Battle of Averasboro.
In the Battle of Averasboro, on 16 and 17 March 1865, 26,000 Union soldiers fought against 8,000 Confederates. The Union lost about 650 men (dead, wounded, missing or captured), the Confederates about 800 men.
