This memorial shows the outline of a World War Two Sherman tank. The Dutch Army used Sherman tanks well into the 1950's. During the cold war era 21 Sherman turrets were placed in concrete bunkers in Arnhem. They were used to defend the IJssel line. From 1964 the tank casemates were no longer in use. In this area (Meinerswijk) 4 of them have been preserved.
