Russian POW Mass Grave Nienburg

In a hedged enclosure behind the cemetery chapel is a grassed area that contains the bodies of Russian POWs. A stone carries the inscription: ‘To the Unknown Soviet Citizens murdered in April 1945 After a long hard labour the final rest’. The exact number interred here is uncertain. Nienburg was liberated on 9 April 1945.
