Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery Godesakker Esbeek

On the Cemetery Godesakker in Esbeek is one Commonwealth War Grave, this is the grave of the 22-year-old Charles Simpson. He died on October 11th 1944.

The liberation of Hilvarenbeek and Esbeek was on October 4th 1944, from Hilvarenbeek, the British army wanted to march towards Goirle, this was not so easy because the Germans had taken strong positions in the forests of Hilvarenbeek and Goirle. The march towards Goirle lasted three weeks. Charles died during the fights in this area.
