Trinity Church and Burial Ground (Trinity Church Cemetery)

In Trinity Church and Burial Ground (Trinity Church Cemetery) is the grave of Captain James Lawrence, killed in action aboard the USS Chesapeake after the British boarded and captured his ship in the War of 1812. The phrase "Don't give up the ship" was uttered by Lawrence during the battle.

The cemetery also contains the grave of Lt. Col. Franklin Wharton, USMC (1767-1818). He was the third Commandant of the United States Marine Corps and participated in nearly every important naval battle during the War of 1812.
