Bank bunker I (capital i) on the Albert Canal south of the village of Lanaye. built in 1936.
Within this enclave were several bunkers of which today 7 remain. The bunkers I, bunker F, bunker L1 , bunker L2 , bunker built in the sluice of Lanaye , bunker O and bunker M.
Bunker I could defend the Albert Canal north and south. A machine gun could be set up on both sides. Photo 2 shows the entrance to the bunker. The bunker could be entered via a descending staircase. The recess of the stairwell has been filled with earth over the years, making the bunker inaccessible.
Another detail can be seen in photo 3. In the wall next to the firing opening, a semicircular groove was made in the concrete during construction. This was to make it possible to open the hatch for the firingport so that it could rest against the groove.
The bunker could cross its fire with bunker L2 which used to be included in the pontoons of the bridge of Lanaye. After this bridge was detonated from this bunker on May 11, 1940, a new bridge was built after the war. However, the bunker still exists.
