Monument British Pilots Kanne

On 25-5-2019, a monument was inaugurated in the Pruisstraat in Kannea community of Riemst in Belgium, for the three British pilots who crashed there with their Blenheim bomber on May 12, 1940
On top of the Pruis, three British pilots also lost their lives in the night of 11 to 12 May when they tried to destroy the bridge in Vroenhoven. These are Flying officer Charlie Bellis, Horace D. Welch and Kenneth Parry. They were buried in the cemetery in Kanne. In 1959, as part of the clearing of the cemetery around the church, the council of aldermen asked for permission to transfer the 3 bodies to the military cemetery at the bottom of the Zusserdel. That did not happen. They were transferred instead to the Cement House Cemetery in Langemark.
