Info board 75 Years Liberation WWII Gierle

In 2019 it was 75 years ago that Belgium was Liberated by the Allied forces.
In this context, Tourism Province of Antwerp organized various activities related to the Liberation in collaboration with Liberation Route Europe. Together with the participating cities and municipalities, a themed brochure with local stories supplemented with photos was made. Information boards were placed at 48 historical locations, each with a local theme.

Theme Gierle: Lille Feast and sorrow in Gierle

Here the story is told of Gierle in the period shortly before and after the Liberation. Several allied planes crash in the village, a resident is killed in the Liberation Battles and a V-1 bomb falls in a field just outside the village but does not cause a lot of damage outside.
