Crashsite Lancaster W4191 EM-Q

In a field between the Veenendaalsestraatweg and the former MOB Complex, lies the crash location of the Avro Lancaster W4191, EM-Q which crashed there.

On December 21st, 1942 this aircraft from No. 207 Squadron was on route back from an attack on Munich. The aircraft was shot down by Oberleutnant Reinhold Knacke, 1./NJG 1 Bf 110 F-4, flying from Venlo. In the crash all seven crew members were killed. The crew concisted of:

Co-Pilot Flying Officer Douglas Robert Bannerman
Navigator Sergeant Harold Bate
Navigator-Bombardier Sergeant Peter Clinch Hind
Wireless Operator Sergeant Gordon Joseph Bentley
Air Gunner Sergeant Cecil Albert Davey
Air Gunner Sergeant George James Dean

All are buried at the cemetery Rusthof in Leusden.
