Memorial War Victims City Cleaning Amsterdam

On a wall in De Hallen hangs a plaque in memory of the victims among the employees of the Amsterdam City Cleaning Service during the Second World War.

Text:
The following employees of the Amsterdam City Cleaning Service fell victim to the war between 1940 and 1945:
J.F. Beerens
W.H. Buffels
A. Kok
M. Nunes Vas
M. Voet
B.G. v. Wittenhorst

On the same wall is a mural painted in 1940 by the Jewish artist Moos Cohen. The mural, which depicts the work of the Amsterdam City Cleaning Service, used to hang in the lobby of the City Cleaning Service on Bilderdijkkade, but was moved to De Hallen in 2014. The artwork was adopted in 2021 by the 4 May Committee Oud-West in memory of the 165 Jewish citizens from Oud-West who were deported during the war. The artist was murdered in 1942 in the Auschwitz extermination camp.
