Memorials War Victims Collegiate Church Sint-Begga

On June 1, 1923, the city council of Andenne approved the request of the church factory Sint-Begga to place plaques in the collegiate church bearing the names of the soldiers, deportees and citizens of Andenne who perished in the First World War.
These four copper plates flank the side entrances to the church. The first plaque is dedicated to fallen soldiers and deportees. At the top two palms surround the year '1914' and below the inscription: 'À LA PIEUSE MÉMOIRE DES COMBATTANTS D'ANDENNE TOMBÉS AU CHAMP D'HONNEUR ET DES DÉPORTÉS MORTS POUR LA PATRIE EN ALLEMAGNE 1914 - 1918' ['Ter pious herinne -ring to the warriors of Andenne who fell on the field of honor and to the deportees who died for the fatherland in Germany, 1914-1918 "].
On the other three plaques are the names of the murdered civilians under the following text: 'SOUVE-NEZ-VOUS DEVANT DIEU DES ENFANTS DE CETTE PAROISSE FUSILLÉS PAR L'ARMÉE ALLEMANDE LESSON 21-22 AOÛT 1914' ['Remember for God the children of this parish, which were shot by the German army on 21 August 1914. "].
