Corregidor - Battery Ramsay

Battery Ramsay (1907-1911) was armed with three 6" (152.4 mm) M1905 guns on M 1905 Disappearing Carriages.

Its guns were out of reach and were not used during the fighting for Corregidor in 1941-1942. Its magazines were used for ammunition storage and sheltering men from of the anti-aircraft Battery Hartford.

Battery Ramsay was damaged by heavy Japanese shelling from Bataan in April 1942. On April 28, 1942, a 105mm shell exploded above No. 1 gun pit, wounding three soldiers. Corporal Jim Bible died of his injuries. Pvt. Earnest Petty and Pvt. Robert Gordon was also injured.

Its two magazines were hit during an American air raid in 1944, resulting in a huge explosions that destroyed the battery. Two large craters can still be seen here.
