Memorial Stone Jewish Cemetery Roswinkel

Memorial stone Jewish cemetery Roswinkel (municipality of Emmen), Drenthe

In Roswinkel - outside the built-up area - a Jewish cemetery on the Roswinkelerstraat was opened in the 19th century. Burials took place there from 1853 to 1886, after which the Jewish cemetery in nearby Ter Apel (province of Groningen) was used. Currently there is one tombstone. In 1998 a memorial stone was placed in front of the enclosure of the cemetery for the war victims from Roswinkel, and a double beech hedge was also planted from the street to the cemetery.

Text on the memorial stone:
'In memory of our Jewish fellow villagers who were killed in concentration camps during the war 1940-1945.
Janette, Jetje, Aron and Abraham Gottfriedt
Julia Kropveld-Spier
Jette Kropveld
Julius Kropveld
May their souls be bound in the bundle of life
Samuel 25:29
