Memorial Stone Botassart

    On a green park is a memorial stone for Dominique Jacob.

    In the period 1992-1993, the United Nations carried out a peace mission in the civil war-ravaged African country of Somalia. Belgium was also asked to supply troops for this operation. The country sent a unit of Para-Commandos, the only unit with experience in Africa, supplemented by other units such as engineer, logistics, DOVO, ...
    On March 12, 1993, a vehicle carrying five Para-Commandos hit a mine.
    There were three fatalities: SLt Frédéric Boon (26 years), Corporal Dominique Jacob (28 years) and Corporal Eric Noël (25 years). Two others were injured: 1Sgt Jean-Bernard Mahieu and Private Soldier Frédéric Degiln.
    On September 9, 1996, a memorial to Corporal Dominique Jacob was unveiled in Botassart. The memorial was created on the initiative of the association "Régionale Para-Commando Ardenne-Semois".
