War Memorial Cemetery Elte

In Elte on the edge of the cemetery on the public road is a cross, erected by the riflemen's association Ludgerus from Elte. The cross was inaugurated on 19 July 1964. It commemorates the members of the congregation who died during the 2nd World War, but should also be a general appeal and commemoration of victims of war violence.

There was already a monument in the village on the wall of the Ludgerus church for the killed members of the congregation during the first world war, however, due to the amount of victims there was insufficient space to expand this with the names for the second world war, therefore this cross is erected. The costs were largely borne by the residents who generously donated a door-to-door collection, the rest was contributed by the government.

The inscription at the foot of the cross;
"Thus saith the Lord: I think thoughts of peace and not of retribution"
