Memorial Bunker MM305

This momument commemorates the four soldiers of bunker MM305. This bunker is part of the sector Manaihant-Les Margarins of the nearby fort Battice of the first line of defense PFL 1 (la Position Fortifiée de Liège 1) for the city of Liège.

The somewhat typical name '305' in this case refers to the altitude at which the bunker is located. at 305 m elevation.

The bunker itself is located 100/150 meters to the east on private property. The bunker is not visable from the road and is overgrown with shrubs.

The monument is surrounded by six shells of 70 cm, caliber 150 mm. On top of the monument an iron Belgian flag is posted in which the number of the bunker is engraved, MM305.

The plaque on the monument says:

est dynamité par lennemie

was destroyed with dynamite by the enemie

Two of the soldiers, brigadier Bonvoisin and private Deltour were k.i.a. when the Germans atacked their bunker. Wachtmeerster (Master of the guard) Xhonneux and private Libert got wounded and were taken prisoner.

A small detail on the monument shows, that two names are marked with a cross to underlline that they were killed in action that day.
