Monument Short Stirling BF415 WP-S Montfoort

On June 29, 2022, this monument was unveiled in the municipality of Montfoort in the presence of relatives.

On the 3rd of February 1943 at 6.22 pm a Stirling Mk I - BF 415 bomber, belonging to RAF 90 Squadron, departed from Ridgewell Airfield, Essex, England, target Hamburg, Germany. It was shot down by a German night fighter of Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 flown by Uffz Johannes Vogel, near Willeskop (current municipality of Montfoort), about 15 km south-west of Utrecht.

The following crew were killed:
• MacDougall, George Couglas; Canada (Pilot)
• Stephens, Gerald; United Kingdom (Pilot)
• Williams, Richard Thompson; United Kingdom (Navigator)
• Jenkins, Leslie Howard; United Kingdom (Flight Engineer)
• MacTavish, Claud Gordon Humphrey; United Kingdom (Observer)
• Adam, George Chirrey; United Kingdom (Wireless Operator/Air Gunner)
• Egan, Patrick Joseph; United Kingdom (Air Gunner)
• Parton, Fredrick Arthur; United Kingdom (Air Gunner).

The aforementioned persons are buried at the municipal cemetery in Montfoort.
