Marine Memorial Limburg

The bronze monument stands in honor of all Dutch marines who have rendered services to the fatherland after 1945. Fallen and survivors. For everyone, but especially for the approximately 40 Limburg marines who lost their lives in the Indonesian Independence War in the former Dutch East Indies.

The green-bronze work consists of two elements. The high scaffolding and the opposing evocative image of a fully loaded marine falling. In addition to a marine, the seven-metre-high artwork also contains parts of fighter planes, weapons, an amphibious tank and other marine combat equipment. Special is the urn that is placed in the foot of the falling marine. The urn is filled with soil from the cemetery of Kembang Koening in Surabaya.
