Information Board Lancaster III LM580 DX-L

Near the station in As is an information board about the crash of the Lancaster III LM580 DX-L. on 22 June 1944.

The pilot Penry GUY and his crew were on their way to a raid in Germany in a British bomber Lancaster III LM580 DX-L.
The German air force hit the aircraft over Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The plane caught fire, but the pilot saved the lives of all six members of his crew.
The Germans captured four crew members as prisoners of war and the other two managed to escape. Except for the pilot, all of the crew survived the war.
