Defense Bunker Vi3

This is bunker Vi3 of the third line of the Posisiton Fortifiée de Liège, PFL3.

The Posisition Fortifiée de Liège consisted of four lines surrounding the city of Liège. Visé occupied a separate position within this system, forming a line of its own. Visé had proved to be a weak point during the First World War. The German army was able to advance to Liège via the gap between the Dutch border and Liège, through the municipalities of Fouron, Visé, and Argenteau, because the cannons of the old forts around Liège did not cover these positions.

Bunker Vi3 could be equipped with a 47 mm anti-tank gun or a heavy machine gun. The bunker has ventilation holes (photos 3 and 4) and two metal doors. After the war, when the bunkers had served their purpose, the doors and all other ironwork were sold as scrap.
