AMIABLE Andrien, 24 years old, born in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier in the 14th line regiment, killed in action in Chaudfontaine on August 13, 1914.

BAILLY Mathieu, age 35, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier in the artillery of La Fortresse de Liège, died of illness on May 5, 1917 at the Hospital Laennec in Paris.

BAIWIR Joseph, age 33, from Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier in the artillery of La Fortresse de Liège, died in internment due to illness on November 17, 1918 at Heerlen (Netherlands). Six days after the armistice.

BLAVIER Mathieu, 19 years !, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier in the 14th line regiment, killed at Chaudfontaine on August 13, 1914.

BLOEM Jacques, age 27, born in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège of fort Chaudfontaine, died of burns sustained at Liège on August 26, 1914. Burns sustained during the siege of the fort.

BLOEM Paul, 28, born in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège of Fort Chaudfontaine, killed on August 13, 1914 at Fort Chaudfontaine.

CLOSE Charles, age 24, from Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège of Fort Chaudfontaine, killed on August 13, 1914 at Fort Chaudfontaine.

DAVID Simon, age 24, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the 34th linieregiment, killed in action at Boortmeerbeek on September 12, 1914.

DECHANXHE Camille, age 25, from Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège of fort Chaudfontaine, killed on August 23, 1914 at the Marchovelette fort at Marchovelette, but missing since then.

DELSEMME Walthere, 25 years old, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier in the 1st artillery regiment, 75 mm rapid-fire guns, died after the war at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont on May 10, 1919 from wounds received in the war.

FLAMAND Jean, age 27, from Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège, died of wounds on August 19, 1914 at Angleur.

GOURMET Henri, age 24, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, corporal in the 27th line regiment, killed on October 1, 1914 at Sint-Katelijne-Waver.

HERMAN Gustave, age 39, from Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège of fort Chaudfontaine, died in internment from disease (tuberculosis) on April 8, 1918 at Putten (Netherlands).

LACROSSE Leopold, age 27, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier in the 14th line regiment, died of wounds on October 25, 1914 at Calais (France).



MOFFARTS Leonard, age 27, from Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège at Fort Chaudfontaine, killed August 13, 1914 at Fort Chaudfontaine.

NOIRFALISE Toussaint, age 21, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier in the 14th Line Regiment, died of wounds in the field hospital at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont on August 24, 1914.

POCHET Toussaint, age 26, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, corporal with the 14th line regiment, killed at Saint-Joris on October 24, 1914. Missing since then.

SAIVE Adam, age 28, from Romsée, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège at Fort Chaudfontaine, killed on August 13, 1914 at Fort Chaudfontaine.

SANTE Oscar, age 25, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, killed on September 12, 1914 at Haacht, missing since then.

SOLHEID Joseph, age 28, born in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, private with the 8th linieregiment, killed in action at Ramskapelle on July 21, 1915, two weeks after his 28th birthday.

Somewhat confusing the memorial plate of 1944-1945 speaks about 'victimes des robots'. (photograph 4)

The name 'robot' is the typical name which was in use by the citizens of Liège and surrounding villages for the V1 (flying bomb) and V2 (rocket) of the Germans. By the end of the war the city of Liège was a constant target for these so called 'robots'. It refers tot the typical sound of the motor.
